March 15, 2022, marks the 10th anniversary of the implementation of the KORUS FTA. Since the beginning of the negotiations, the KORUS FTA has faced controversy. First from concerns about access for U.S. beef and automobile exports, and then in the agreement’s early years from a growing trade deficit with Korea. It is timely to make an objective assessment of the agreement. Did the KORUS FTA and its subsequent renegotiation create a “win-win” situation for the United States and Korea in terms of trade and employment? With a changing trade environment, what steps need to be taken to upgrade the U.S.-Korea economic relationship for the next decade?
Please join KEI and KIEP for a discussion about the first 10 years of the KORUS FTA with some of the key architects of the agreement and about the future of the U.S.-Korea economic relationship.
