Please join us for a discussion on how support for international human rights policies and programs can play a role in countering violent extremism. Extremist ideologies used to justify violence and terror explicitly reject the values that lie at the heart of the international human rights system.
Around the world, violent extremist groups attempt to curtail free expression, religious liberty, gender equality, and other fundamental rights. At the same time, some governments have cited the global struggle against extremist violence to justify actions against political opposition, increasing abuse by security forces, and curtailing civil liberties of their citizens, which ultimately undermines democratic values and principles.
