In the wake of the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, leaders of color seeking to advance racial justice are facing resistance and backlash. This interactive event will explore insights, reflections, and lessons learned from the field to help inform better investments and support for equity focused leaders of color, with a goal of helping transform existing leadership development programs and inspiring new collective leadership development programs so that they provide substantially more and better support for leaders of color.
The Urban Institute, with the support of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, is hosting this virtual half-day convening facilitated by racial equity and community engaged methods scholars, Danielle DeRuiter Williams and Elsa Falkenburger, to discuss the experiences, challenges, and opportunities facing equity focused leaders of color. Participants will have the unique opportunity to co-create, inform, and cross-pollinate action steps and recommendations to better support equity focused leaders while becoming acquainted with peers, funders, and other key stakeholders in the field. Findings from this event, along with those we gathered from our landscape scan and prior interviews and focus groups, will be synthesized in a publicly available report set to be published in late December 2022.
