Virtual Event

The Equality Trust, Cambridge Commons and My Fair London invite you to a very special event about how the elite control the wealth economy with Chuck Collins, Director for the Institute for Policy Studies’ program Inequality & the Common Good, to launch his latest book, The Wealth Hoarders: How Billionaires Pay Millions to Hide Trillions (Polity Press).

Register now for a fascinating discussion of how the 0.01% has deployed a whole industry to ensure that the world’s richest pay next to no tax. Chuck will be joined by Dr Wanda Wyporska and Professor Rowland Atkinson.

Dr Wanda Wyporska – Executive Director at The Equality Trust, the national charity that campaigns to reduce social and economic inequality. She is a Visiting Research Fellow at the University of York, a trustee of ACEVO (Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations), Redthread Youth, and Equally Ours and Governor of a primary school. She is a regular keynote speaker and sits on or has advised a range of bodies, such as the ACEVO race advisory panel, the Fight Inequality Alliance Steering Group, the Sheila McKechnie Foundation Social Power review, NUS Poverty Commission and the Sex Education Forum Advisory Group. Wanda regularly comments in the media, having appeared on Newsnight, BBC Radio 4’s The Moral Maze, Sky News, and BBC 1’s The Big Questions, and written for The Guardian, HuffPo, and The Independent among other outlets.

Professor Rowland Atkinson – Research Chair in Inclusive Societies at the University of Sheffield and author of Alpha City: How the Super-Rich Captured London (2020, Verso). Rowland’s research crosses the boundaries of urban and housing studies, sociology, geography and criminology. His work identifies hidden and sometimes invisible social problems and issues. Rowland lead the first UK study into the rise of gated communities which considered the role of the middle-classes and higher income households in shaping social outcomes across cities. Rowland has more recently written about higher income groups while maintaining an interest in poverty, housing and exclusion.

This event is a webinar and will be live streamed. Advanced Registration Here. There will be time at the end of the event for Q&A via the chat function, or you can send in questions ahead of the event to info@equalitytrust.org.
