Nature based solutions NbS can provide cost effective and multifunctional responses to the climate and biodiversity crises, including flood risk, extreme heat, water insecurity, food insecurity, land degradation, and ecosystem loss. Yet despite growing recognition of their potential, NbS often remain difficult to integrate into mainstream policy and investment decisions. One barrier is the lack of robust, decision relevant economic evidence. Governments and investors need to understand not only the upfront costs of interventions, but also their wider benefits, including avoided climate damages, improved ecosystem services, health and social benefits, enhanced resilience, and long term economic returns.
