A Book Talk with Matthew Dallek
The Center for Cyber & Homeland Security (CCHS) and the Graduate School of Public Management (GSPM) at the George Washington University would like to invite you to a book talk with Matthew Dallek, Assistant Professor of Public Management at the Graduate School of Public Management, on his new book "Defenseless under the Night: The Roosevelt Years and the Origins of Homeland Security."
The book examines the history of the Office of Civil Defense, established in 1941 by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, led by Fiorello La Guardia, and responsible for the protection of the U.S. civilian population during wartime emergencies. More information about the book can be found here and in this recent review by theWashington Post.
At the event, Prof. Dallek will provide an initial overview of the book, and then engage in a conversation with Christian Beckner, Deputy Director, CCHS; and Prof. Bert Tussing, U.S. Army War College, about key issues highlighted in it that are relevant to homeland security today.
A book signing will be held at the conclusion of the event, with books available for purchase.
