The idea of the “Russian World” is often invoked by President Vladimir Putin but remains an ambiguous notion even within Russia itself, sending mixed signals about the Kremlin’s intended domestic and foreign policy.

Please join the Center on Global Interests and the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University for a discussion on the historical origins and contemporary political usage of this term, especially within the context of the Ukrainian crisis. This event will mark the release of CGI’s report, “‘Russian World:’ Russia’s Soft Power and Geopolitical Imagination” authored by Marlene Laruelle, Director of the Central Asia Program at George Washington University. CGI Director Konstantin Avramov will moderate the discussion.
