While presidential elections steal the headlines, it is regional elections that often reveal the most about Russia’s political system. What strategies does the opposition use to challenge the ruling United Russia party, and how does the Kremlin respond? How has the role of opposition parties evolved since Vladimir Putin returned to the presidency in 2012–and what prospects do they have in the future?
Fresh off an election round this September and in the run-up to the Russian parliamentary elections in 2016, the Center on Global Interests is pleased to invite you to a discussion with one of Russia’s top experts on regional politics.
A wine reception will follow. Space is limited; attendees must RSVP in advance.
Rostislav Turovsky is the Vice President of the Center for Political Technologies, one of the oldest independent think tanks in Russia, and is the head of research at the Laboratory for Regional Political Studies at Moscow’s Higher School of Economics (HSE). He has previously served as an adviser and senior researcher at the Gorbachev Foundation, the Reform Foundation and the Likhachev Foundation.
