The National Academy of Sciences (NAS), National Academy of Engineering&nbsp;(NAE), Institute of Medicine, and National Research Council are private,&nbsp;nonprofit institutions that provide expert advice on some of the most&nbsp;pressing challenges facing the nation and the world. Our work helps&nbsp;shape sound policies, inform public opinion, and advance the pursuit of&nbsp;science, engineering, and medicine. Most of our work is conducted by the&nbsp;National Research Council and the Institute of Medicine. The Research&nbsp;Council, the operating arm of the NAS and NAE, performs its studies and&nbsp;workshops through five major divisions; Behavioral and Social Sciences&nbsp;and Education, Earth and Life Studies, Engineering and Physical&nbsp;Sciences, Policy and Global Affairs, and the Transportation Research&nbsp;Board.

The organization&#39;s peer-reviewed consensus reports bring together the&nbsp;world&#39;s foremost scientists, engineers, and health professionals to&nbsp;address some of society&#39;s toughest challenges. Each year, more&nbsp;than&nbsp;6,000 of these experts volunteer to serve on hundreds of study&nbsp;committees that are convened to answer specific sets of&nbsp;questions.Throughout any given year, the National Academies&#39; also&nbsp;convenes hundreds of conferences, workshops, symposia, roundtables,&nbsp;standing committees, and other gatherings that attract the finest minds&nbsp;in academia and the public and private sectors. These venues for&nbsp;discussion and debate are essential for allowing the scientific process&nbsp;to unfold. The National Academies Press publishes dozens of proceedings&nbsp;and summaries on these activities each year.

The American Association for the Advancement of Science, &quot;Triple A-S&quot; (AAAS), is an international non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson and professional association.
