Please join Ryan C. Berg, Senior Fellow of the CSIS Americas Program for an armchair discussion with the Secretary General of the Organization of American States, H.E. Luis Almagro.
The Organization of American States (OAS) oversees and helps direct the most pressing regional priorities facing the Western Hemisphere, advancing regional interests along its four central pillars of democracy, human rights, security, and development. As the oldest multilateral institution in the Western Hemisphere and as the only regional body which includes all 35 countries in the hemisphere, the OAS is in a unique position to contribute to specific solutions to address regional challenges that are multilateral in nature. However, the OAS’s relevance has come under scrutiny.
This conversation will address the OAS’ continued relevance in meeting regional challenges, discuss possible reforms to the organization, and ask the Secretary General about his goals before the end of his term in 2025.
This event was made possible through general support to CSIS.
