Just days after losing his son to suicide, Congressman Jamie Raskin suffered the additional trauma of the January 6 insurrection and then the biggest challenge of his career: serving as lead manager of the second impeachment trial of President Trump.

The three-term congressman’s new book about these experiences, Unthinkable: Trauma, Truth, and the Trials of American Democracy, is currently No. 1 on the New York Times best-seller list. As Raskin prepares to help lead nationally televised, prime-time hearings into the January 6 insurrection, he will join The Nation and the Institute for Policy Studies in a conversation about the future of American Democracy.

The Nation’s Editorial Director and Publisher Katrina vanden Heuvel, The Nation’s chief political correspondent John Nichols, and IPS Executive Director Tope Folarin will talk with Raskin about his book, the upcoming hearings, and his priorities for 2022. Raskin’s father, Marcus Raskin, co-founded IPS in 1963, and created good trouble there until his death in 2017.

Join the conversation! There will be ample time devoted to audience questions and engagement.
