Ukraine: The Forgotten War

Understanding the current state of the war, the needs of Ukrainian military, and impacts to U.S. national security provided by an expert panel who recently traveled to several cities and met with top leadership in Ukraine.

From June 6–14, the American Foreign Policy Council (AFPC) sponsored a visit to Ukraine by a delegation of prominent thinkers and analysts in order to gain a better understanding of the ongoing war with Russia, gauge the effectiveness of domestic reforms now underway in Kyiv, and discuss opportunities for cooperation with the West. The 15-person delegation was comprised of leadership from several policy organizations and institutes, including the Heritage Foundation, the Jamestown Foundation, the Hudson Institute, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, and the Center for U.S.-Ukrainian Relations, as well as several prominent executives engaged in U.S.-Ukrainian affairs.The delegation split into three teams to study regional effects of the war, with members traveling to the Western city of Lviv, the Southern city of Odesa, and the Eastern cities of Zaporizhia and Mariupol before reuniting for meetings in Kyiv. While in the Ukrainian capital, the delegation met with a range of notables, including: the Honorable Andriy Parubiy, speaker of the Ukrainian Rada; Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin; Mr. Vasyl Hrytsak, head of the SBU (Ukraine’s Security Service), and; Dr. Ulana Suprun, the Ukrainian Health Minister. Several members of the delegation will provide an account of what they learned in each region of Ukraine and a summary of the team's overall findings from the trip.
