The Quincy Institute (QI) is seeking a reporter with a high degree of motivation and initiative for its online magazine, Responsible Statecraft.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a demonstrated ability to break news that can drive the foreign-policy conversation and shine a light on the forces and ideologies that have mired the United States in endless wars. The reporter will work closely with RS's editorial team to explore unique ways in which RS can expose corruption and hypocrisy in the military industrial complex, as well as on Capitol Hill and the federal government. The reporter will write about the issues that are important to Americans outside the Beltway, too, including military families and veterans, and the economic and health impacts of war on local communities. The reporter will also be expected to cover federal elections as they intersect with foreign policy, and respond to breaking news.
Our reporter will also assist with daily social media and publishing tasks as needed.
Candidates must be dedicated to advancing the mission, vision, and principles of military restraint, and committed to transpartisanship, journalistic integrity, and professionalism. The person selected for this position will report to the Editor-in-Chief and the Managing Editor of Responsible Statecraft.
This is a paid, full-time position, based in Washington, D.C. Candidates will be expected to be in person three days per week, though schedules are flexible. The Quincy Institute offers comprehensive medical and dental insurance, a 401k savings plan, and other benefits, as well as professional development and a friendly and dynamic working environment.
Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, resume, and three published writing samples.
Candidates should submit their application by close of business on November 13, 2026. We will reach out to the candidates that we feel are the best match for our needs via email.
The salary range for this role is $70,000 to $80,000 commensurate with experience. This position is based in Washington D.C. and is not a remote position. Only candidates based in the United States will be considered.
Quincy Institute provides options for a benefit package that includes medical, dental, vision, 401k, Roth IRA, vacation, paid sick leave, life insurance, HSA, FSA, STD, LTD and other supplemental benefits.
RS is the online magazine of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft. Our work aims to shift the foreign-policy conversation in Washington toward restraint, promoting a diplomacy-focused vision of U.S. foreign policy and critiquing the ideologies and interests that have mired the United States in endless wars.
In service of this mission, we embrace a policy of transpartisanship, meaning that we champion worthwhile ideas regardless of their provenance and profess no allegiance to either side of the political aisle. This commitment gives us a uniquely broad reach. In the past year, RS articles have been cited by left-wing, right-wing and mainstream media, including the American Conservative, the Daily Caller, Democracy Now, Drop Site, Foreign Policy, the Guardian, Haaretz, the Hill, the Hollywood Reporter, the Intercept, Jacobin, the Nation, the New Republic, National Review, the New Yorker, the New York Times, Politico, Reason, Semafor, Time, UnHerd, and Zeteo.
The organization is a think tank and communications project that works to move the United States away from constant war and domination toward greater reliance on diplomacy and cooperation – to benefit the people of the United States and the world.
